State Representative Jeff Keicher, R-Sycamore, announced the start of his Summer Reading Program for kindergarten through fifth grade students who live or attend school in the 70th District portions of DeKalb, Boone and Kane Counties. The “It’s Showtime at Your Library” program is offered to encourage students to start or maintain positive reading habits.
“As a kid reading a book on a sunny summer day or while in the car or on vacation helped transport me to another time and place. Kids today are no different. We need to be sure to share the love of reading early and often,” Rep. Keicher said. “I invite students to join our reading challenge and explore the unlimited possibilities opened by books that will inspire them to discover and pursue their own unique interests and creative potential.”
“It’s Showtime at Your Library” challenges students entering kindergarten – fifth grade to read eight (8) books over the summer. To celebrate Illinois’ recent bicentennial, Rep. Keicher is encouraging students to read a book about Illinois or any of the notable men and women who are Illinois natives that went on to make major contributions to U.S. history in civic leadership, science and technology, the arts and humanities, education, athletics, the Armed Forces or any other category.
Brochures have been distributed to local elementary schools, but are also available for pickup at Rep. Keicher’s District Office located at 158 W. State Street, Suite C in downtown Sycamore, or online by clicking HERE. Participation in this program can overlap with any other summer reading programs offered through area libraries, schools, or other organizations
Participants will be invited to an ice cream recognition party in August where they will receive an official certificate from the Illinois House of Representatives. To earn a spot at the summer readers’ recognition party, a parent or guardian must fill out and sign the form included on the brochure and return it to Rep. Keicher’s office by Friday, July 19th.
Please call Rep. Keicher’s office at (815) 748-3494 with any questions or to request a copy of the Summer Reading brochure.
