Rep. Keicher recognizes DeKalb Kiwanis Club on 100 years of service to the community

State Rep. Jeff Keicher presented the DeKalb Kiwanis Club with an official copy of House Resolution 190 today celebrating the organization’s 100th anniversary. Keicher introduced and sponsored the resolution, which was adopted by the Illinois House of Representatives on April 13. Here is the full text:

HOUSE RESOLUTION 190

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb was chartered on January 25, 1921; and

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb has continually focused on the Kiwanis International pledge to serve the children of the world and has sponsored over 500 projects and activities serving the children of DeKalb and the world; and

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb’s commitment to the youth of DeKalb was shown within the first decade of its formation with the donation of uniforms to the DeKalb High School band; and

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb has long been a staunch supporter of the development of parks in DeKalb, funding swimming programs at Hopkins Park and creating DeKalb Kiwanis Park in 1974, which has become the hub of soccer activity in DeKalb; and

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb expanded the reach of Kiwanis in the DeKalb area by sponsoring the creation of the Sycamore Club in 1951, the Kishwaukee Club in 1969, the Aktion Club of Opportunity House in 2003, and the Tri-County Club in 2010; and

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb sponsored the creation of the first Key Club in the Eastern Illinois District at DeKalb High School in 1947 and sponsors Builders Clubs at Huntley and Rosette Middle Schools, thereby providing a service club opportunity for the youth of the DeKalb community; and

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb made significant financial contributions to Kiwanis International Programs, including the eradication of iodine deficient disorders in the 1990s and the elimination of maternal neo-natal tetanus in this century; and

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb has funded college and vocational education scholarships for graduating DeKalb High School seniors for over 60 years; and

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb initiated the Flag Program in 1998, which provides a patriotic outlet for participating DeKalb households; and

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of DeKalb has continuously participated in DeKalb’s Corn Fest since 1982, providing delicious roasted sweet corn for the more than 100,000 attendees each year; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Kiwanis Club of DeKalb for its 100 years of service to the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Kiwanis Club of DeKalb as an expression of our esteem and respect.
