Rep. Keicher Announces Efforts to Improve Road Safety

State Representative Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) has been working closely with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to improve road safety for residents of the 70th District along state routes. Recently, IDOT provided information for safety improvements that will take place along IL Route 47 in Elburn.

“Ensuring residents can safely travel our roadways on a daily basis is one of the most fundamentally important roles of government,” said Keicher. “I’m pleased to announce that by working closely with IDOT, we are seeing safety improvements prioritized, and projects are being set in motion.”

One such area of concern is for residents entering and exiting subdivisions safely along IL Route 47 in Elburn. To address this concern, IDOT is planning for improvements at Rowe Rd and Kenmar Dr along IL Route 47. The Department will:

  • Install advance ‘Offset Side Roads’ intersection warning signs in advance of Rowe Rd facing northbound and southbound traffic on IL 47. To improve sign conspicuity, two sets of signs will be placed, one on the left side and one on the right side of the road along IL 47. Red flags will be placed above all the signs.
  • Install two intersection warning signs in between the two legs of Rowe Rd on the right side only, one facing northbound traffic and the other facing southbound traffic.
  • Supplement the existing intersection warning signs for Kenmar Dr with new identical signs placed on the left sides of the road facing northbound and southbound traffic. Red flags will be placed above all the signs.
  • Replace the existing ‘Stop’ signs at Kenmar Dr and Rowe Rd with larger sized signs.
  • Install ‘Cross Traffic Does Not Stop’ signs under the ‘Stop’ signs at Rowe Rd and Kenmar Dr. These signs will face traffic exiting the side streets to ensure that motorists are aware that both Kenmar Dr and Rowe Rd are T-intersections.

In addition to the improvements along IL Route 47 in Elburn, Rep. Keicher’s office is also working with IDOT for similar safety improvements. These improvements include along IL Route 23 and Baseline Rd between Sycamore and Genoa, IL Route 23 and Melms Rd north of Genoa, IL Route 23 and Chicago Rd south of Waterman, IL Route 38 and Anderson Rd east of Elburn, and along Peace and Freed Rds west of Sycamore.

Rep. Keicher has also been working on legislation in the General Assembly to clean up and prevent roadside debris blown from waste hauling vehicles that litter roads and local farm fields.
