Speaking during debate on the House floor against legislation to extend several Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts, Rep. Jeff Keicher again called out the abuse of TIFs and their harm to taxpayers.
Keicher has been an outspoken critic of how TIFs are used during his time in the Illinois House of Representatives. He has filed legislation on multiple occasions to reform the system. His two most recent proposals in the 103rd General Assembly include House Bill 3312, which would limit TIF extensions, and House Bill 4995, which would require a voter referendum to initiate a TIF.
