Following Governor Pritzker’s testimony on Illinois’ sanctuary state policies before the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee today, Illinois House Republican Conference Chair Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) released the following statement:
“The Governor’s testimony before Congress today was another unfortunate example of the disconnect between his sanctuary state policies that prioritize non-citizens over public safety and the needs of our most vulnerable Illinoisans. Since 2022, Illinois taxpayers have spent more than $3 billion on services for non-citizens, not including education costs or other various services. Meanwhile, as illustrated by the state budget recently passed by Democrats, long-standing services for our most vulnerable – those with disabilities, seniors – continue to be neglected in favor of pet projects and migrant spending.
“As long as Illinois continues its poor public policies to put non-citizens above Illinois families, we will continue to see more people leaving our state.”
