“The rising severity of cyberbullying, especially among children and teens, has reached dangerous levels,” said State Representative Jeff Keicher. “Technology has made it easier and easier to target and harass someone in ways that are leading to severe mental health outcomes and, sadly, even lives being lost to suicide. Unfortunately, current state law doesn’t allow for any investigations because there’s no statute against it, even in the case of severe harm or injury through cyberbullying.
“I’m proud to be carrying State Senator Linda Holmes Senate Bill 2741 in the House to tighten our laws around cyberbullying and help curb this epidemic. Thank you to Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser and Detective Rich Wistocki for all the work you’ve done to get us this far.”
Currently, Senate Bill 2741 is waiting to be taken up by the full House of Representatives.
