The Prescription Rx Drop Off hosted by State Representative Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) and the Sycamore Police Department collected 127.5 lbs. of expired and unused medications during the three-hour event on Tuesday, August 11. An estimated 125-150 vehicles took advantage of the drive-through prescription drop off. Accepted items collected at the drop off included prescription medications, prescription ointments and patches, vitamins and pet medicines.
“Thanks to the Sycamore Police Department, Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital and every local resident who participated, we were able to ensure that over 127 lbs. of expired and unused medications will not be abused or make their way into our water supply,” said Representative Keicher. “I appreciate every member of our community who took a few moments to stop by and drop off to help us ensure these drugs will be properly disposed of.”
“We were very pleased with the number of people that turned out and the quantity of prescription drugs and unneeded medications that were dropped off,” said Chief Jim Winters. “Thanks to Representative Keicher and his staff who promoted the event and to all those who participated so these unwanted items are no longer accessible and can be disposed of safely.”
