Early this month, the Illinois General Assembly passed legislation to create a Blue Envelope Program to support Illinoisans living with autism during interactions with law enforcement. Similarly, legislation was recently passed in the Illinois Senate to create an alert on license plates for drivers and passengers who are autistic or neurodivergent.
In reference to the two bills, State Representative Jeff Keicher said, “I was honored to be one of the founding members of the Neurodivergent Advocacy Caucus in the Illinois General Assembly, as well as a sponsor of HB4472, which recently passed both Houses unanimously to create the Blue Envelope Program in Illinois to support those living with autism.
“This community has often been overlooked and undervalued, and I appreciate the passion with which my colleagues and others are undertaking to change their lives.”
